Arts Management is a developing field established to meet the ever-growing demand for leadership and organizational expertise within arts and cultural organizations, both private and public. Arts managers bridge the worlds of performing and visual arts with applied managerial, financial, and programmatic skills.

The Arts Management program at George Mason University is excited to offer an online Master’s Degree in Arts Management. Providing a high-quality education is key to our mission at Mason.

All online courses are designed and taught by experienced faculty who also work in the field as managing directors, chief financial officers, arts lawyers, event planners, fundraisers, marketing professionals, cultural heritage facilitators, among others. They work at leading theaters, performing arts centers, museums, cultural heritage sites and as arts consultants.

Contemporary Dispute Resolution Graduate (Certificate Program)

Program Description

The purpose of the Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Dispute Resolution is to prepare individuals with the analytical and practical skills using process such as mediation, negotiation, coaching or facilitation to deal effectively with disputes in work settings including schools, businesses, and local and state government. Students will be prepared to analyze and understand disputes in the context of larger social, structures (for example: economic and racial inequality, unequal access to the justice and education systems). Students will be trained to identify and implement appropriate dispute resolution strategies. Students will learn to analyze the factors underlying disputes, recognize power differential among disputing parties, and choose appropriate strategies to address those factors. Graduates will be able to use dispute resolution methodologies including mediation, negotiation, coaching and facilitation to assist people to manage disputes.

Business Fundamentals (Graduate Certificate)

Program Description

Develop a strong foundation in the core principles of business with a graduate certificate in business fundamentals from the Costello College of Business at George Mason University.

George Mason University’s graduate certificate in business fundamentals is designed for graduate students in other non-business disciplines or those looking to quickly upskill in foundational business knowledge.

Develop both your soft skills (such as leadership, collaboration, and communication) and hard skills (such as analysis, management, and implementation). Aid your decision-making by learning how to develop tools for understanding individual and group behaviors, make and implement effective marketing decisions, analyze financial statements, and apply financial theory to investments.

Students who complete at least two business fundamentals certificate courses with grades of B or better will have their application requirements for the master’s in management program reduced should they choose to apply. Courses taken for the business fundamentals certificate can be applied to the MBA or master’s in management program upon acceptance into the program.

Human Capital and HR Management – Certificate

Program Description

Develop your skills as a human resources leader with a graduate certificate in human capital and HR management from the Costello College of Business at George Mason University.

Learn to evaluate employee performance, assess organizational effectiveness, and craft impactful training programs for businesses and organizations.

Successful companies drive organizational success by investing in their employees. Following guidelines from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the graduate certificate in human capital and human resource (HR) management is designed to help you build essential skills for effective human capital development, including change management, employee selection, performance management, and workforce training.

If you complete at least two human capital and HR management certificate courses with a grade of B or better, your application requirements for Mason’s MBA program or master’s in management program will be reduced, and your certificate course credits can be applied towards your master’s degree upon enrollment.
