Your service is recognized both financially and academically at George Mason. Our Office of Military Services helps you use every benefit you’ve earned, from the GI Bill®* to Tuition Assistance and beyond.

Veterans
George Mason accepts every VA GI Bill® chapter — Post-9/11, Montgomery, VR&E, DEA, Selected Reserve, plus Yellow Ribbon for eligible veterans.
- Post-9/11 GI Bill®: Chapter 33 covers tuition, housing, and books. Certified each term via a VRRF. Also includes Yellow Ribbon funding.
- In-state tuition eligibility for Virginia veterans: Honorably discharged veterans living in Virginia qualify for in-state rates. Non-Virginia veterans may also qualify under Section 702.
- Yellow Ribbon Program: Adds funding beyond the GI Bill’s cap for 100%-eligible veterans and helps offset out-of-state tuition costs.
Active Duty/Service Members
George Mason supports active duty with Tuition Assistance, spouse/dependent aid (MyCAA, VMSDEP), and credit for military training.
- Military Tuition Assistance (DoD): Covers up to $250 per credit toward tuition. Requires ESO approval before enrolling. Funds are paid directly to George Mason each term.
- Deployment/no-penalty policy: Withdraw with full tuition credit, or take an incomplete, if called to duty mid-term. Protects your enrollment status and standing.
- In-state tuition for personnel stationed in VA: Active-duty members stationed in Virginia, and their dependents, may qualify for in-state rates. Federal and state code both apply.

- Colonel Tom Johnson Family Scholarship for Veterans Endowment: For undergraduate veterans completing unpaid internships.
- Dr. K. Richard Johnson Memorial Scholarship for Veterans Endowment: For veterans enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development.
- Kevin and Veronica McCrohan Endowed Scholarship: For Special Operations veterans or combat-wounded students majoring in Marketing.
- Kara Anne Lang Endowed Scholarship: For veterans and active-duty, Reservist, or National Guard undergrads.
- Cornell Wells Endowed Scholarship: For active-duty, Reservist, or honorably discharged veteran business students.
- Veterans Endowed Scholarship: For veterans and active-duty, Reservist, or National Guard undergrads.

Enrollment Process
Veterans
- Apply to George Mason through Admissions
- Apply for VA benefits; receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
- Upload your COE to George Mason
- Submit a VRRF each term after registering for classes
- Complete monthly enrollment verification with the VA
Active Duty/Service Members
- Apply to George Mason through Admissions
- Get ESO/counselor approval before enrolling in courses
- Submit TA paperwork via the Financial Guarantee/Authorization Portal
- Submit a Joint Services transcript or DD-214 for credit review
- Check your branch’s TA process: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy

How do I use my GI Bill® benefits at George Mason?
Submit your Certificate of Eligibility, then a Veterans Registration and Reporting Form (VRRF) each term after registering.
Can I combine Tuition Assistance with the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve?
Yes — DoD policy allows Federal Tuition Assistance and Chapter 1606 together if you’re enrolled half-time or greater.
Am I eligible for in-state tuition as a veteran?
Yes. Veterans living in Virginia who weren’t discharged dishonorably qualify for in-state tuition rates.
What happens to my enrollment if I’m called to active duty mid-semester?
