How to Resolve a Concern
George Mason University strives to provide a meaningful and accessible educational experience for all students, yet some may encounter issues or situations that may not meet that ideal.
Our goal is to provide you with an easy-to-navigate framework so that your concerns are addressed in a timely manner. In these instances, students are encouraged to first discuss the issue directly with the faculty or individual involved, as many concerns can be resolved at that level.
If the concern remains unresolved, students should submit a complaint directly using George Mason’s complaint process. To learn more or to submit a complaint, please visit complaints.gmu.edu.
Out-of-State Students and SARA Complaints
George Mason University participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), which includes consumer protection provisions for students enrolled in online courses outside the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Out-of-state students should begin the complaint process at George Mason, yet if a resolution cannot be not found, students may contact Virgina’s SARA Portal Entity. NC-SARA maintains a directory of SARA State Portal Entities. Additional information can be found at the SARA Student Complaints page.
Non-SARA State Complaints
California is not a participating member of SARA. Students may file a complaint directly with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
