Nurse Educator (MSN) | Online Nursing Program

Program Description

Nurse educators work in a variety of university and health care environments, providing continuing education, professional development, and other critical instruction in new clinical information and technology. This MSN concentration is designed for RNs with baccalaureate degrees and clinical nursing experience who desire to teach in nursing schools, hospitals, and community health care agencies. Students explore principles of teaching and learning, practice developing program curriculum and evaluation, and become confident in their roles as educators.

Who should apply?

The nurse educator concentration is designed for registered nurses with baccalaureate degrees and clinical nursing experience who desire to teach in schools of nursing, hospitals, and community health care agencies. You can begin the MSN program courses as a non-degree student before being accepted to the program. Please note this program can only be completed on a part-time basis.

This program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Please note this program can only be completed on a part-time basis. Most courses are offered using a blended combination of asynchronous online learning and face-to-face discussions. Online course offerings vary by semester.

NURS 728 and NURS 729 each include 120 hours on-site at a clinical facility (required) and an asynchronous component (optional). If you do not reside in the Washington DC region, it is possible to make arrangements for the practicum at a clinical facility in your area.

A Special Survey on Vacant Faculty Positions For Academic Year 2015-2016, released by AACN, revealed a total of 1,328 full-time faculty vacancies in 741 nursing schools across the U.S. Nearly half of the schools selected a master’s degree in nursing as necessary for a candidate to be eligible to fill a full-time vacant faculty position.

Have a BSN degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of 3.0 GPA
Hold an active US Registered Nursing license
