An environment of rigor and integrity

Mason’s online programs and courses maintain the same academic rigor and integrity as their campus-based counterparts. All Mason students are expected to meet these standards. Be sure to understand your student rights and responsibilities in regard to academic integrity, the honor code, responsible use of computing, and student conduct.

Academic Integrity. Students are responsible for their own work, and students and faculty must take on the responsibility of dealing explicitly with violations. This tenet is a foundation of our university culture. See more about academic integrity here.

Honor Code. All Mason students, including online learners, must adhere to the guidelines of the George Mason University Honor Code. Read the Honor Code here.

Responsible Use of Computing. All Mason students must follow the university policy for Responsible Use of Computing. View the university policy here.

Student Conduct. The Office of Student Conduct is responsible for resolving any allegations of misconduct that impact Mason’s core values. All students should strive to uphold these values:

  • Foster student success.
  • Live and act with integrity.
  • Show you care.
  • Celebrate achievements.
  • Lead by example.
  • Embrace our differences.
  • Dream big.
  • Catch the Mason spirit.
  • Pursue lifelong learning.

FERPA. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), also known as the “Buckley Amendment,” is a federal law that protects student educational records and provides students with certain rights. Read more about FERPA here.
