As online education initiatives and hybrid learning opportunities continue to gain momentum across Mason’s campuses, the Office of Distance Education (DE) is pleased to welcome three new members to the team!
In speaking of the new Assistant Director position, Director for Distance Education Dr. Steve Nodine notes, “Laura is an important and timely addition to our team. Student services and support are areas which we have not been able to fully address, until now.”
He continues, “Doreen and Dominique are also excellent additions to our team, and their assistance will be critical in supporting our office and Mason’s rapidly growing online programs.”
Assistant Director of Online Student Services and Communication
A long-standing member of the Mason community, Laura joined the Office of Distance Education in August 2015. In this new role, Laura focuses on the coordination and implementation of a robust and integrated program for online student services. Laura also provides leadership in communication planning as the DE Office expands its services and seeks to unify its messaging regarding student recruitment and support, curriculum development, and institutional support.
With over 15 years in higher education administration, Laura’s expertise spans strategic planning, data analysis and reporting, assessment, and organization and leadership development. She holds a MS in Organization Development and Knowledge Management from Mason and is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credentialed by the International Coach Federation (ICF). Laura is passionate and enthusiastic about the opportunity to support online students as they work to reach their educational, professional, and life goals.
Student Office Assistant
Doreen joined the Distance Education team in September 2015. With an eagerness to apply her administrative skills and strengths, she is excited to help the Office of Distance Education continue to grow and expand Mason’s Distance Education program. Some of Doreen’s key tasks include transitioning the office’s document storage from paper to electronic form, generating inventory spreadsheets, maintaining web-links, answering phone inquiries, facilitating events, and performing any other tasks as needed.
A Mason student since August 2014, Doreen is in the process of completing her Bachelor of Science in Physics with interests in solid-state and optical physics.
Student Office Assistant
Dominique has been a member of the Distance Education team since September 2015. As one of her main tasks, Dominique is dedicated to answering email and phone inquiries from all current and prospective students who are interested in opportunities to learn online. Additionally, she supports further growth of online education at Mason through her student outreach and awareness efforts across campus, representing DE at tabling events and new student orientations.
A Mason student since August 2012, Dominique is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Sport Communication.
