Who Should Apply?

Current clinicians, health care managers, and IT professionals are the top applicants to this program. The program is typically taken by students with prior advanced degrees, but one can apply with an undergraduate degree. However, a prior health care degree or experience in health care or IT is not necessary to join. HAP 780 – Data Mining in Health Care (requires HAP 709)
HAP 725 – Statistical Process Control in Health Care
HAP 823 – Comparative Effectiveness Analysis Using Observational Data (requires HAP 709 and HAP 719)

All credits can be applied to the MS in Health Informatics degree.

Tuition and Fees (2023–2024)

Tuition is $800 per credit hour. An additional charge of $35 per credit hour applies for a Distance Learning fee.

What is the workload like?

Coursework is in an asynchronous environment, so you can learn when and where it’s most convenient to you, and adjust when you complete coursework on a weekly basis. You’ll complete projects, papers, and coursework that tie to real-world applications, and participate in discussion boards.

What are the requirements for admission?

You must hold a BA or BS degree or equivalent from an accredited university or college with a 3.25 grade point average. There is no testing required for admission, nor is there a requirement to have related career or degree experience. You should have taken basic-level computer science/technology, mathematics, and statistics and be familiar with the fields or you may be required to take additional prerequisite courses.

George Mason University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

How long does it take to complete the program?
